Adult Artmaking Workshops

This in-person two-day workshop will offer artists the opportunity to immerse themselves into the abstract realm.

Finding inspiration on the 4 Elements (Earth, Water, Air and Fire), Artist Lydia Panart will guide participants through the painting process - from reflections on the symbolic meaning behind each element, to their visual abstract representation.

Through visual explanations, painting techniques demonstrations, and one-on-one feedback, Lydia will guide the students along the layering process exploring 2 elements of their choice.

This program is suitable for those with some previous painting experience looking to enhance their own artistic voice.

Join McMichael Executive Director and Associate Curator John Geoghegan for a conversation with Toronto-based visual artist Sandra Brewster as they explore FISH, her new site-specific installation at the McMichael.

Enjoy all-day admission to the gallery from 10 am to 5 pm.

Led by Emily Pleasance, an artist and certified Nature & Forest Therapy Guide, this program is designed to help you slow down, drop into the body, and better connect with yourself and the natural world. Inspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku, Forest Therapy draws on the interconnectedness humans have with our natural environment. Through embodiment and relaxation practices, it will teach you how to see nature as a supportive resource.

Distinguished Canadian mezzo-soprano Julie Nesrallah returns to the McMichael for an evening of Italian songs and music echoing the scenery of James Wilson Morrice paintings in the exhibition Morrice in Venice. Tickets include all-day gallery admission.

This concert also celebrates the rich artistic legacy of Italy during Italian Month in Ontario.

Sunday June 29, 2025, at 2 pm

Join curators Sandra Paikowsky and Sarah Milroy as they discuss the special exhibition Morrice in Venice. Morrice looked at the historic city of Venice with contemporary eyes, making the monumental intimate through glimpses of buildings and canals, streets and bridges all seen through a distinctive modernist lens.

An intensive weekend of study in oil painting technique. Artist Judy Sherman will cover a wide range of painting skills and topics, including how to understand values, composition, colour, shape, form, lighting, brush technique and much more. Through demonstrations, painting exercises, and one-on-one feedback, students will learn to view and analyze the world as a visual artist.

July 2-4 (3-day week)

This session will encourage campers to experiment with a wide range of materials and techniques while discovering art in two- and three-dimensions currently on view at the McMichael.
