An intensive weekend of study in oil painting technique. Artist Judy Sherman will cover a wide range of painting skills and topics, including how to understand values, composition, colour, shape, form, lighting, brush technique and much more. Through demonstrations, painting exercises, and one-on-one feedback, students will learn to view and analyze the world as a visual artist.

Session 1: Mixed-Media Madness

July 2-4 (3-day week)

This session will encourage campers to experiment with a wide range of materials and techniques while discovering art in two- and three-dimensions currently on view at the McMichael. Combined with fun outdoor adventures, this program offers a mixed-media experience offering the opportunity for creativity and expression.

Session 2: Outdoor Studio

July 7-11

In this special session, gallery explorations and studio projects are designed to nurture appreciation of the natural world and the importance of environmental stewardship. From painting en plein air to making art with objects found in nature, campers will polish their observation skills and fine-tune their creativity while discovering the biodiversity of the Humber River Valley.

The turn of the 17th century saw sweeping changes in music, including the rise of virtuoso instrumentalists and music written in the "modern style." This performance, featuring music by Castello, Bertali, Leonarda, and others, explores the concept of "modern" in music.

An intimate performance featuring the work of Mozart and his contemporaries Johann Vanhal and Josef Myslivicek (also known as Il Boemo—The Bohemian).

Sei Solo—these words J.S. Bach wrote on the title page of his revolutionary works for solo violinists. The words can be interpreted as "six solos" or "I am alone"—a clever double-entendre: a challenge to the performer. This program features the remarkable G-Minor Sonata that opens Bach's collection, as well as works for solo violin by his compatriots Westhoff and Telemann. The performance is balanced by Missy Mazzoli's Dissolve, O my heart, a 21st-century response to Bach.
